Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The Polartec AirCore™ membrane is windproof as well as lightly water-repellent, while also being remarkably breathable.
- The membrane and fabrics used are PFAS-free; they provide protection against wind and rain without a coating that is harmful to the environment.
- The Chameleon tape on the shoulder seams keeps the rain out while letting the fabric show through.
- The 3 back pockets have metal drainage holes so that rainwater doesn’t collect in them.
- The splash tail with an ergonomic design protects your lower back from road spray from the rear wheel.
- Unlike previous Perfetto jackets, this version does not include any openings with zips that allow you to adjust ventilation; rather, it is the membrane that regulates breathability based on your level of exertion.

The jacket is designed for rides in temperatures between 2°C and 12°C, with the possibility of a light rainshower. If you often ride in even colder conditions, you can simply wear an extra layer underneath; for consistently colder weather, the Alpha 150 winter jacket, made for temperatures from -5°C to 10°C, is a more sensible choice.
The Perfetto 4 winter jacket has a tailored fit, a slim, athletic cut that hugs your body without any flapping fabric - exactly as you would expect from a Perfetto jacket. To decide the right size for you, use the T-shirt size chart in the order box above.
Polartec AirCore™ membrane
The electrospun membrane is semi-breathable: It protects against wind and light rain while allowing warm, moist air from your body to escape. The harder you ride, the harder the membrane works to keep you dry. The fabric weighs 219 grams per square metre and makes the jacket warmer and more protective than previous Perfetto generations.
Chameleon tape on the shoulders
The iconic shoulder taping of the Perfetto range has been replaced by transparent Chameleon tape, which lets the fabric underneath show through while improving water protection in the area most exposed to rain.
Splash tail and pockets with drainage holes
The extended, ergonomically shaped back panel protects your lower back from road spray from your rear wheel. As a nod to the original Gabba, the three rear pockets have metal drainage holes, so that any water that does get in can drain straight out again.
The Perfetto 4 cycling jacket is designed for changeable conditions with the possibility of wind and light rain, and temperatures between 2°C and 12°C.
Suitable for:- Cold and wet spring and autumn rides in changeable weather;
- High-intensity training rides, as the membrane actually works better the harder you ride;
- A thin base layer under the jacket; this combination lets you benefit most from the membrane’s moisture-regulating properties.
- Persistent, heavy rainfall; as the membrane is partially water-repellent, the jacket is not a rain jacket.
- Frost or prolonged extreme cold without an extra layer; in such conditions, you should wear a thicker, insulated jacket such as the Castelli Alpha 150.
- Wear a thin, moisture-regulating base layer under your jacket because the AirCore™ membrane works best when there is moisture to wick away.
- If you’re cycling at a leisurely pace, wear an extra layer. The membrane becomes more active as your exertion increases; at a slow pace, it provides less insulation.
- Wash the jacket on a gentle cycle and do not use fabric softener, which would affect the membrane’s water-repellent properties.
- Allow the jacket to dry thoroughly before wearing it again, especially the pockets with the drainage holes
The Castelli Perfetto 4 cycling jacket is designed for temperatures between 2°C and 12°C as well as wind and light rainfall. If you’re riding in lower temperatures, wear an extra layer under the jacket or choose a thicker, insulated model.
Can I ride in the rain with the Castelli Perfetto 4 jacket?
The Polartec AirCore™ membrane is lightly water-repellent and offers good protection against rainshowers and road spray, thanks in part to the chameleon taping on the shoulders and the extended splash tail. For a ride in prolonged heavy rainfall, an actual rain jacket is a better choice.
What is the difference between the Castelli Perfetto 4 and the Perfetto RoS 3 cycling jackets?
The Perfetto 4 uses the new Polartec AirCore™ fabric in a heavier 219 g version, which provides more warmth and protection than the Perfetto RoS 3 jacket. Furthermore, the side ventilation openings on the RoS 3 have been replaced by a membrane that adapts to your level of exertion, and the back pockets on the Perfetto 4 feature drainage holes.
Does the Castelli Perfetto 4 cycling jacket have ventilation openings?
No, unlike previous Perfetto versions, the Perfetto 4 does not have any vents with zips. Instead, it is the Polartec AirCore™ membrane that regulates breathability: The harder you ride, the more actively it wicks away heat and moisture.
